Tsitsi Dangarembga, author of This Mournable Body, has won the PEN Award for Freedom of Expression. Dangarembga was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2020, and this honor recognizes the extraordinary contribution she’s made beyond the literary world. Dangarembga is a filmmaker and activist as well, and she was arrested in Harare last year for protesting in Zimbabwe.
